About: Ponca City, OK

Ponca City is located near the Arkansas River, Kaw Lake and Lake Ponca. The city was named after the Ponca Tribe of Native Americans. The Marland Oil Company once controlled about 10 percent of the world's oil reserves and was founded by eventual Oklahoma governor E.W. Marland. Eventually, it merged with Conoco, which later was owned by the DuPont Corporation. ConocoPhillips, which is now based out of Houston, still operates one of the country's largest refineries in Ponca City.
